Quebec Province - Canada

Ooh! Là! Là!

When someone mentions Quebec to you, it’s the Quebec City that comes to your mind immediately. However, looking at the larger picture or larger land mass, Quebec, or as it’s written in French, Québec, is a whole province of Canada located on the east of Ontario and north of US states of Maine & Vermont. Quebec province occupies about one-sixth of Canada’s total land mass is the largest of the country’s 10 provinces. The capital is one of the most popular cities in Canada, namely Quebec City, while the other known city being Montreal.

Quebec City is the oldest city in Canada. This picture blog is more about Quebec province, while Quebec City will be covered by itself in its own place on this website shortly – www.AllAboutTrip.com. Will post the link once Quebec City picture blog is ready for viewing.

The visit to Quebec is not just about French influenced part of Quebec City with cobblestone alleys, outdoorsy restaurants but more about an overall feel of visiting some exotic foreign country.

The interiors of this vast land of Quebec Province offer so much more of everything. Right from the eastern most fjords in North America, beautiful serene & picturesque to national parks to quaint sleepy villages and the exotic feeling that one craves for.

The beauty of this Quebec landscape enhances multi-fold when it rains. Ohhhh! The calmness, the serenity! It takes you to the dreamy state of mind. You don't need to do any meditation, just take this all in and feel it in all your senses.

We visited some attractive beautiful national parks on our journey exploring the interiors of Quebec province.

The Saguenay Fjord is possibly the quietest of all fjords in the world. This Saguenay Fjord is one of the ten longest ones in the world with 350 meters high towering rocky cliffs and massive 126 km long glacial valley. This is the only inhabited fjord in North America. The Most Beautiful Villages in Quebec lie on the Saguenay Fjord as per the Canadian tourism website.

The large barge like boats are designed to most efficiently take you in your own car from one bank to the other. Your Google Maps or the Garmin GPS will show that the roads just disappear into the water and re-appear on the other side of the river Saguenay. This part is covered by the water vehicle, an awesome and very well-organized and yet totally free service by Canadian government.

Highly disciplined drivers park on one side of the road waiting to board the free ferry crossing the river in Quebec Province in eastern Canada.

Even the GPS navigator shows the road as if continuing over the river!

These ferries are big and can carry a lot of vehicles, including private cars as well as trailers, trucks, lorries, etc.

This entire region has a lot of National Parks or Parc National as they say in French. This is that heavenly place on earth meant for you to enjoy, run, bike, hike, relax and enjoy your own picnic lunches. There are a few restaurants or commercial shopping definitely not for people looking to run around big city scenes and the hustling and bustling of crowded places. Quebec province’s national parks and the fjords region is where nature meets nature!

Some of the national parks you can plan to visit are Jacques-Cartier National Park, La Mauricie National Park, Grandes Jardin National Park, Bic National Park, Mont Tremblant National Park. All these large beautiful serene parc national are within about 4 to 5 hours of drive from Quebec City. When you are all charged up with your national parks visits, long trails, hikes, picnics, you can now visit Quebec City for a lot of history, character, people, wine & dine in the road side cafes of the old cobble stone streets.

On the way to Quebec City you can stop by to visit the Montmorency waterfalls. It’s no Niagara but equally spectacular. You can take the cable car to the top, walk over the falls and take the stairs back down.

You can plan to stay at any of the several great places in the province, towns of Saguenay, Baie St Paul, Le Eboulements where there are ample amenities around. You and your vehicle can take the free boat rides and visit Isle-aux-Coudres capturing the breathtaking lovely views and beautiful homes. Isle-aux-Coudres is a less crowded quaint town to drive or bike around. Take a relaxing nap on the beaches, enjoy your delicious picnic lunch and just unwind.

From the top of the Montmorency falls you can see the island Ille d’Orleans, across the Lawrence River. This bustling island is very popular among tourists maybe because of its many vineyards. You can have your wine tasting sessions or dine in the restaurants sipping the one of the sweet or dry local wines. You can take in the exhilarating views of the rolling hills and St Lawrence river in the background, enjoying that red or white wine, which has now become one of your favorites.

TIP – Drivers in Quebec are highly disciplined. So drive nice and polite.

TIP – The days might be shorter in spring and fall, check out the length of the day while planning.

TIP – There may not be many food places or restaurants around and most may not be open late. Plan accordingly. Keep emergency or backup food while on excursions.

TIP – Carry plenty of food, water, trail mix and other required stuff when visiting National Parks.
